Packing List
HRM SPORTS, LTD. - World Class Salmon Fishing in Alaska. It is our desire to
make your trip fun & enjoyable. We'll strive to operate in such a way that
you'll want to come back again and again.
SUGGESTED PACKING & EQUIPMENT LIST
FISHING LICENSE: Your Alaska fishing license is included!
FISHING GEAR: All fishing gear for your week of guided fishing is
provided, but if you have something you know works well, be sure to bring it as
we all like to learn. Small rod tubes only if you are bringing a personal
fishing rod. Casting or Spinning Reels for Coho or Chum should be filled with
15-pound test line. We use 30-pound test for Kings.
COOLERS: We supply soda, beer and ice. Included in the camp price
are styrofoam coolers (not the cheap waxed cardboard) for you to take your frozen catch home. You do not need to bring your own coolers.
TRAVEL GEAR: 1 large water proof duffle bag, maximum weight
when packed 50 pounds. Hard sided suitcase type baggage doesn't travel well in
Alaska.
CLOTHING:
- Pants, polar tech/fleece. Light pants or shorts for
sunny days.
- Heavy shirts, polar tech/fleece. Light shirts or T-shirts for
sunny days.
- Extra warm socks.
- Lightweight long johns.
- Gloves.
- Slippers or loafers with all weather soles for relaxing around
camp.
- Short rubber boots for in the boat ("Muck Boots" work and pack
best: www.Muckbootcompany.com -
the model we use is the "Hoser Classic" mid cut model # hsm000A). Or a pair
of breathable waders.
- A couple of hats and a cord to keep them from blowing out of the boat. A warm fleece hat for the cool mornings on the water.
- Polarized sun glasses.
- Plastic bags for dirty and/or wet clothes.
An ideal outfit for fishing is: Long underwear - polar fleece pants and
shirt - rain jacket and pants - boots - hat.
RAIN GEAR: Heavy duty rain pants, along with a jacket that has a good
hood on it and sealed seams. Inexpensive & lightweight rain gear fails quickly
in Alaska.
FLY FISHING: If you plan to fly fish bring an 8 wt. For Chums, Coho &
Sockeye, and a 10 wt. for Kings (4 piece rods travel best). Your reels should
have about 300 yards of backing and a sinking line for King ( a 375 grain
"Teeny Mini Taper" is ideal), or floating & sink tip for Chum & Coho. Bright
pink and Flame red patterns work best. Flies tied on circle hooks work best for
Chums. Although these fish are not particularly leader shy fluorocarbon tippets
work quite well.
WADERS: Waders are not necessary for guided fishing from our boats. If you plan to fish from the bank at the camp, a taller boot is handy for releasing the fish. If you bring waders for fly fishing, your boots should have lug type soles. The Nushagak has a sand/gravel & silt bottom.
SLEEPING BAG: The camp will furnish high quality 0° rated sleeping bags with liners. Our pillows are air filled pillows for sanitary reasons. Feel free to bring your own favorite pillow if you desire.
PERSONAL ITEMS:
- A personal hygiene kit. We supply towels, washcloths, shampoo and
body wash.
- Although there are usually no mosquitoes at camp, or on the river, it's
a good idea to bring insect repellent.
- Medicine, prescriptions, sunscreen, etc.
- Cash or credit card for guide and staff gratuities (10% of your trip costs is
appropriate), and small purchases in town, etc.
- Small flashlight.
FIREARMS: Are not necessary or allowed.
CAMERAS: If possible, bring more than 1 camera, and plenty of film,
batteries, storage disc's etc. Video cameras are welcome. Also bring a good
quality watertight bag for you gear.
TRAVEL TICKETS: If you need help with air tickets, please call or email us. We can even make arrangements on your behalf for a small fee.
Please make sure you send us your flight itinerary so that we can schedule the transportation between Dillingham and the camp. Email them to camp@hrmsports.com
SPECIAL NEEDS: If you have special dietary needs or food allergies, please let us know in advance. Our chefs will be happy to accommodate you.
We provide a power outlet to each cabin for charging your camera batteries etc.
