Car Hire In Australia During COVID-19 — Five Things To Know

With restrictions on work and travel within Australia, you may be wondering how your car hire will be affected. Here are five things to know regarding car hire of new and used cars during the COVID-19 restrictions in Australia.

1. Keep Your Mind At Ease

Rest assured that if you need to hire a car during these times of restriction, that your vehicle will be fully sanitised and disinfected for your safety and convenience. Steering wheels, door handles and hard surfaces of hire cars are regularly cleaned, and employees are practising social distancing measures and handwashing procedures.

2. Keep Informed Of Travel Restrictions In Your State

Each state has different rules about essential and non-essential travel during COVID-19. There are border restrictions for some states requiring that anyone travelling over the state border will need an essential reason to be crossing and may need some form of proof that their travel is indeed essential. Quarantine measures are also in place. These can impact your ability to pick up a hire car in one state and drive to another. Keep advised of government restrictions.

3. Keep Your Costs Down

Hiring a new car is expensive. A used car hire can do just as good a job of getting you from point A to point B and save you money during difficult times. If it is possible to switch your booking from a new to a used car to save money then this is advised.

4. Keep Your Booking Where Possible

Keep in mind that you can always keep your booking and simply postpone your travel date. If you are an essential worker and need a car for work, it will be possible to both keep your car hire booking and to travel. And if it is not possible for you to keep your booking, you may be eligible for a credit or full refund.

5. Keep In Touch

Keep in touch with your dealership or car hire company regarding any changes to your travel plans or itinerary. They will be more than happy to help you, as long as you get in touch with them before the date of your booking. It is best practise to give at least 48 hours notice before a change of plans. The more notice you can give, the better.

If your travel is for work and other essential services, keep your mind at ease as there are still car hire options available to you.
